The evasive chapter 10 of ALBUM ZERO

Album Zero, the Monkey

'Lo, ev'ryone! Well, it's been a month and one day since I wrote the ninth chapter of Album Zero, the Monkey, also known as [A0, 🐒]. There are reasons why this is the case, but you know what? It's a sad thing, it really is. It comes down to...fight scenes. Action scenes. These are my weaknesses in writing alongside spicy scenes!

Before I continue, I want to acknowledge that this is my first entry as part of Blaugust: Festival of Blogging 2026! I would have made an entry yesterday but I was tired all day for some stupid reason... 😒

Brief recap: Chapter 9

Where chapter nine left off (which also happens to be where part two starts), the protagonist Rakshal was being trained by the enigmatic snake god Igni and had some thoughts regarding the former's role and place as a divine transgressor. This is all groovy and such, but here are some things I'm considering about chapter nine before I go into chapter ten...

1. Adding to it

Let's be honest, this chapter left one wanting for more. I don't particularly like short chapters when they're the result of something I wrote, so this seems like a no-brainer for me. I can stretch out the second scene, the flashback, and give more hints to things to come or of importance in the series, add more to the beginning of the spar with Igni before Rakshal gets flattened...

2. Rewriting it

While this is an option, I really don't want to do this. At all. The chapter isn't horrible, it just doesn't make sense to me. And since I've only had the barest of interaction with it online, I can't tell if it's missing anything. Yes, I tacked that on because of Reasons™ that I'll get Into™ one day... 😒

What exactly would I add if I rewrote it? Well, good thing you asked, 'cause I've been researching Journey to the West and Sun Wukong and a bunch of other fun things for about two weeks now, and I've come to realize my characters are pathetically weak despite being gods! There's much to add to it, sure, but what if rewriting it is the better way to go? 🤔

3. Skipping the events within it

...well, I don't know if this is smart, either. Rakshal isn't meant to be a complete "Whoa, what're you doing here!?" character in the latter books of The Little Gods series, but he is meant to be a bit of an enigma himself. Now, if I were to skip the events of chapter nine, ten, and eleven and go straight to the ending, well...that would benefit no one but myself.

Not sure if I want to do that, but, hey, it is an option.

Now. What to do about chapter ten? 🤔

After thinking about it all this time...well, I still don't know!! I sure wish there was some way I could get feedback on it from someone who has actually read the story... 😞 I've been stuck for too long. I worry I might lose readers if this goes on for any longer, and I barely have any as it is...

Bah.

I just woke up, so back to the drawing board I go, I guess. I could also continue reading JTTW or watch some more wuxia on YouTube... 😔
